Transitions typically mark an ending followed by a time of self-reflection––hopefully leading to a new beginning or a new outlook on life. Every life transition asks us to discard a past way of thinking. During the transitional period, we may feel uncomfortable, almost disconnected with our environment and even ourselves. While this is natural, if you can’t move through this phase, these feelings can often overwhelm you, sending you spinning out of control into emotional turmoil. Many times, people turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to numb the anxiety and stress of transitional times. Depression or high anxiety can cause physical and medical challenges. Go to the emergency room if needed. Do not hesitate; it’s better to be safe than sorry.
