Much of my practice is devoted to helping people who “want to have a fresh start.” Well, it’s not like opening a door and having a new life or watching the curtain go up in a theater revealing a brand new show.
The truth is the process of transformation (and it is, indeed, a process) begins when you start doing things that actually move your life forward. Saying you want a fresh start is not enough.
Here is a positive ‘To Do’ list:
Spend time with the right people: people you enjoy, who love and appreciate you, who encourage you to improve in healthy and exciting ways.
Be honest with yourself. Be honest about what’s right, as well as what needs to be changed.
Make your happiness a priority. There is a story about the richest man in Babylon. The moral is ‘Pay Yourself First.’ That means value yourself, look out for yourself, stick up for yourself, otherwise you are sabotaging yourself.
Realize how wealthy you are. Henry David Thoreau once said, “Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.” Even when times are tough, it’s important to keep things in perspective. Hey, you didn’t go to sleep hungry last night, did you? You didn’t have to sleep outside. You got to choose the clothes wore this morning. You hardly broke a sweat today. You didn’t spend a minute in fear. You have clean drinking water. You have access to medical care; access to the Internet. You can read. Thinking about all that it’s safe to say you are incredibly wealthy. Remember to be grateful for the things you have, don’t take them for granted.
Focus on the possibility of positive outcomes. Your mind must believe it CAN do something before it is capable of actually doing it.
Believe that you’re ready for the next step. Ready! Get Set! Go!
