OVERTHINKING THINGs

“It isn’t what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It’s what you think about.” Dale Carnegie

Are you thinking about searching for happiness by changing jobs, relocating or pursuing an intimate relationship? C’mon. You’ve changed everything but your mind. The time and money you piddle away on external things is a waste. It’s what’s inside that matters.

Paul Simon’s lyrics: 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.

The problem is all inside your head/ She said to me/ The answer is easy if you/ Take it logically/ I’d like to help you in your struggle/ To be free/ There must be fifty ways/ To leave your lover.

The answer is easy if you take it logically:

STOP agonizing over things that happened in the past.

STOP obsessing over what might happen in the future.

STOP complaining about problems, take steps to resolve them.

STOP being afraid of change, and stop resisting it.

DON’T be around people who belittle you.

DON’T try to control everything and worry about things you can’t control.

DON’T lie to yourself and those around you.

DON’T blame everyone around you.

DON’T keep doing the same thing over and over.

DON’T hold on to anger.

DON’T think you’re always right.

DON’T compare yourself unfavorably to those who you feel are more successful.

DON’T let small issues snowball into big problems.

DO take responsibility for your actions.

DO admit when you are wrong.

DO learn something new.

DO make new friends.

DO take responsibility for your actions.

Do take a vacation to clear your mind.

DO let people help you.

DO ask for advice and other’s opinions.

Men: DO read a user’s manual (just kidding).

Let me share a secret about happiness: Nobody is happy all the time. It’s perfectly normal to experience fluctuations in your life. Rest assured, happy people are not immune to hard times, heartbreak and embarrassment. The difference is they turn their frustrations into fuel and rebuild their lives.

Power up.
