Anxiety is not a bad hair day.

September 17, 2019

Anxiety isolates you from your friends and family. They don’t know how to deal with it. You want them understand to understand what you’re going through, but have trouble articulating it. If you've never had anxiety, it's difficult to be empathetic. If you try to "cure" your friend's anxiety by saying, “I understand what you're dealing with,” you may make things worse.

Anxiety isn’t a physical condition, it can’t be cured with logic or reasoning.
It requires special treatment.

The disorder is unlike the tension you may experience before a meeting with your boss, or when you are confronted with an uncomfortable situation. Anxiety is much more complex, less controllable and difficult to cure. It is self-sustaining and leads to added mental and physical problems as angst and negative thinking increases.

Anxiety may cause troubling physical manifestations like hyperventilation, sweating and nausea. It creates hypersensitivity, a mental response that heightens people’s awareness of their physical symptoms.

People become fearful of their anxiety and that affects other areas of their life. When you're nervous about one thing––social situations for example––it may evolve into becoming nervous about other things.

Dealing with anxiety is an uphill battle, and it takes a toll on others. Anxiety can strain relationships. A loved one, stressed out by your condition, may also develop anxieties.

Anxiety is misdirected energies. specializes in helping people with the condition. Dr. Martin’s coaching makes patients realize they are not alone…and that’s half the battle.
